STONEMASONRY REPOINTING
Pointing, the filling of joints between any kind of stonework with mortar can be the icing on the cake, when done right it can make a good job look amazing, when done badly it can make the job look at best untidy and at worst unfinished. Pointing can make the difference between a professional looking job and a mediocre one.
Pointing however is not purely aesthetic. It serves a very important purpose in keeping damp out of stonework which will prevent damage and erosion to stone and its foundations and also prevent rotting of timber within your house.
If you are suffering from damp, it may be a case of water seeping in between the stones, which can be solved by simply chopping out the old mortar joints and repointing the area to cure the damp problem and prevent further decay to your house and contents.
